Nicholas Becomes Nuëcø's Mental Health First Aider

Mental Health is a huge part of the workplace and the construction industry is no exception. In fact, the construction industry has the second highest suicide rate of any other sector. On average 53.3 out of 100,000 workers commit suicide. As an industry, we must become more aware to the issues and ways to help individuals suffering and that’s why at Nuëcø we have a specialist mental health first aider on-hand should any of our employees feel they need to reach out.

Nicholas Gibbons is our Operations Director at Nuëcø Group but also doubles up as our qualified Mental Health First Aider. Nick previously served in the Royal Marines where he learnt many skills especially the need to communicate effectively. Nick brings a lot of the skills he learnt during his time in the military including discipline and vision to Nuëcø Group which not only help projects run more efficiently but also with better team spirit and morale so as a team we are able to overcome any challenges a project may bring.

Nick comments: “without our valued team we do not have a company – each and every one of us plays an integral part in the business and its continued success which is why it was important for me to become a qualified Mental Health First Aider.

Mental health has played a massive part in my life and teamwork has always been an important part of it and this was cemented during my time in the Royal Marines but it goes deeper than working together, it is also about being approachable and empathetic to peoples needs. I really enjoyed the training in becoming a mental health first aider, more importantly I’m extremely proud to be someone that can have a positive influence on the people around me.

I’m always open for anyone who wants someone to listen to them, be it positive or negative”
